• Terminology

Ever wandered about the different terminologys used in the access control industry?

Use the tabs bellow and find out more about them, giving you a better understanding of your system and what else it's capable of doing.

  • .
  • This is often the small plastic or metal box, placed in a roof space or cupboard out of the way and infact it is the heart of the system, sometimes these can often be backup for power outages

A standalone system is always controlled by each keypad and users are added and removed from there. It has an limited functions unlink the networked version.

A networked system is normally controlled by a PC and or APP to add remove and control access and timers as well as seeing system logs, this can be done over one or many sites via a secure connection over your internet connection

Used to gain access into the protected part of the building via a code.

Used to gain access into the protected part of the building via a prox fob.

Used to gain access into the protected part of the building via a tag and sometimes a code as well.

Used to gain access into the protected part of the building via a finger print or retina scan

A magnetic lock used to hold closed the door, this is the most common.

Used for when doors open both ways, and holds with a magnetic side force

Strike locks are often used on metal doors that already have or had a standard keylock in place

A small metal pin comes out the lock to prevent the door being opened

A button used to unlock the door from inside the protected part of the building, this can sometimes not be added to a system and a code or tag reader replaces it.

Used to monitor the status of the door and confirm when it has been opened without a valid user entering (forced open). Sometimes this can be built into the door lock.

A sounder can be added to access control system to alert if the door has been left open or been forced open and sometimes can have flashing strobes / light

This is for networked systems for programing all the parameters for access and times of the day people can gain access into the building.

Timers can be used to let the postman enter the building at a give time of the day, or just to keep the door(s) unlocked at sevral times thoughout the day, this is normally controlled with a networked system

You can intergrate most systems to help you get the very best out of the systems
