FAQ ~ SmokeCloak

What is SmokeCloak

SmokeCloak is an electronic security device which is normally connected to the intruder alarm system. When activated, it will produce a large volume of harmless dense white vapour which gives the appearance of fog or smoke.
It is designed to completely fill the area being protected by reducing visibility within 30 seconds to less than 30 cm. The density of the vapour is then automatically regulated for a pre-determined period or until the alarm is switched off.

Why use a SmokeCloak?

SmokeCloak is intended to prevent or delay intruders gaining access to protected areas of the building by reducing visibility. This should provide an additional time period in which police can respond to the alarm and during which time access to the area is restricted by "smoke".

Is the smoke emitted harmful?

NO. It is not real smoke - it is a glycol vapour and is harmless. A similar substance is also used in nightclubs.

Can I breathe the smoke?

YES. For the same reason as above.

How do I turn it on / arm it?

Smokecloak is connected permanently to the mains supply and is triggered into operation by the alarm system. Arming and disarming are therefore controlled by the alarm system.

standalone system can be armed and disarmed in a number of different ways: switches, keys or fobs.
If in doubt give us a call.

For how long does the smoke pump out?

Smokecloak is controlled by a timer/Cloak sensor which ensures correct initial fill of the room, typically taking 30-40 seconds. If the density of the vapour subsequently drops the Smokecloak will reactivate maintaining protection.
Smokecloaks are also fitted with a run-time timer which limits how long a machine can produce vapour after an alarm activation.

How long does the smoke remain?

Approximately 45 minutes is typical if the room is unventilated and at a normal temperature (i.e. 20C)

How do you recommend the smoke is extracted?

After turning off the alarm system, doors and windows can be opened to create a through-draught which will, depending upon the amount of ventilation, reduce the smoke so that you can easily move about in less than 20 minutes.

Will the smoke damage clothing, computers and servers, tablets, mobile phones etc?

NO. Provided it is installed and maintained correctly it will not cause damage.
We recomend ventilating the building /area within the first 30 minutes of the smoke being deployed.

Does the installation of Smokecloak affect insurance cover?

Some major insurance companies are offering discounts for the inclusion of Smokecloak in risk improvement measures.

Can Smokecloak operate during the times when protection is not needed?

The Smokecloak system is designed to be automatically disabled when the alarm system is unset, unless used with personal attack activation
